Hey all! I currently have a lg 8300 and love it. But...
I'm a bit of a geek and it's fun to read about the new phones and possibilities. My new every two is coming up.
Anyone played around with the lg nv, or the samsung gleam? They both look like they may have some speaking features, and the gleam is purple!!! *Grin!*
Hee-Hee, girly geek?
Hi there. One of my best friends has an LG NV. Yes, it does have a lot of speaking features. For example, it will read both sent and received text messages, with no special software added. It has a bit of an odd shape to it, but if you can get past that, it seems like a good phone.
Hey all, I went to the verizon wireless store last night. I'll have to think about the nv, I'd have to get use to that keyboard.
I think the gleam is out. The keypad is very smoothe!
I know it would be a step backwards, but the 5400 looked nice.
I don't know, at this point, nothing grabbed me. My 8300 is great! Why can't they update the software inside to include text message readout? I imagine a bunch of blind customers would sign up for those txt packages after that! *grin*
Thanks Sister Dawn.
Take a look at blindbargains.com. They posted an article about accessible Verizon phones that might be worth reading. Good luck.

My two year is coming up myself, and I've decidd to get the SMT 5800 with mobile speak. The main reason is because that sometimes I would like to go online with my phone and ddownload ringtones to my phone through verizon's get it now. I didn't realize that the envy would read your sent texts as well. I personally love thee qwerty keyboards, but then again, I'm a college student, and I use the computer all the time.
Ok. I have the SMT5800. I also have the older PN820 clamshell. Honestly, your best bet, being a girly geek, would be to get one of the smartphones like the Q, or SMT5800, and add Mobile Speak. You probably could get the black Q for next to nothing. Just my take.
Also, the neat thing about the SMT is it has both a querty and a dialpad, and you can text from either.
A friend of mine has the Motorola Q and MobileSpeak. I'd say that is your best bet, if you have the money to purchase the MobileSpeak software. However, if not, then I stil say keep your 8300, or go with the NV.
Is the Motorola the only phone from Verizon that MobileSpeak will work on? I saw the NV, and I'm not too sure if I'm all that keen on how it looks, and how it feels in my hand. I also heard the voice that reads the text messages, and it was very weird. It sounded extremely robotic and is spoke in a monotone.
No. The SMT5800 is another choice, and some stores may have the PN820 still kicking around. If you wanted to go all the way, and had the money to do Mobile Speak Pocket, you could go to a Palm, a VX6800, or the Samsung I760.
There's a great deal on the 820 right now on Verizon's site...Only $129 with a $100 rebate, but only while supplies last. With your New every 2, you might be able to get it free. Just log into your VZW account. For just the cost of Mobile Speak smartphone, $295, you'll have a killer, fully accessible phone, and you can even use MSS free for a month before you pay for it.
i have the NV and itsw grate and inexpensive. for verizon.
after the 2 years, im going to switch to ATNT only because more of there phones are acessible.
but if you want an inexpensive phone, get the nv2 because the LGNV phone has discontinued from what i heard.
I have the LG voyager and it's a great phone, I and send and recieve tests no proglem, it reads them and I can also put my contats in my phone as well. I know at&t has some awesome phones, but very expensive.
I have the Env. and i like it. I didn't know it would read sent messages though, mine only reads recieved. Any idea how o make it read the sent ones?
My two year is soon coming too, and I'm not sure which new one to get. The gleme has been discontinued from what i heard, so i guess it'll be the eNV2? Good luck with the search..
